    Standard (V) "Thebat Device" E61 temperature-messer

    Hi

    I have made an temperature-device.
It is really nothing new, i have used it myself on my old Izzo Alex II and my current Izzo Alex Duetto.
And the cool thing is that you can measure the excact temperature of the water.
I used it on my old Heat-exchanger-Izzo to flush the correct amount of water, and on the Duetto, i use it to set the offset to the correct value.

Is works as the Erics's Device, is easy to install and cost a lot less.
I make these devices myself and the adaptors that goes in to the grouphead as well, so it is a private sale.

    The installation is very strait-forward.
You just replace the 6mm "inbus mutter" in the grouphead (save the gasket) with the one that i supply and gently press in my thermometer.
    easy peasy

I have made some for the other guys in the Danish Espressobar.dk and they are very happy with it

it is tested and works/fits with the following machines and all other E61:

    Izzo
    Vibiemme
    ECM
    Expobar
    Bezzera machines with E61
And it should fit other machines that use the E61 grouphead.

Offset before ( and i have used this setting for 3 months and couldent belive that i needed so "hot" water )
And the device shows the true water-temperature

Offset adjusted, and now i can believe what the machine tells me.

@thebat: what kind of screw are u using? my silvia has a similar inbus screw at the brewhead (haven't checked the thread size yet) an i was thinking about mounting a temperature probe there....

    regards

For the german KN-folks: see " Monitoring Brew Temperature - E61 & Silvia - Espresso Machines • Home-Barista.com " to follow the origin of this interesting stuff.

@Thebat: Eric once had complete devices also for the Silvia, you do not, right?

    Hi Bane
    It is a 6mm screw.
If you meassure your screw i can maby make a special meassure-probe to you ( then some others silvia-owners could allso use this thermometer)
    And you are right.
it makes Flushing much easyer, the refresh-rate of the display is very quick, så you can see the temperature change as you flush ( don't waste too much water )

    Edit: I will try making a silvia-probe.
just need to borrow a silvia from someone around me
    - i'll come back with that

awesome. i think a screw-mounted pt100 would be best, since the thermometer you used wouldn't fit a silvia. with a pt100 one could use a external metering device (i think my silvia couldn't accommodate another display)

    cheers
    Georg

EDIT: perhaps i should mention, that i don't know exactly where that screw connects to. just saw that someone on home-barista had mounted a pressure gauge there, so there should be a direct connetion to the brew water cycle...

a pressuregauge/temperatureprobe - same same as long it has a direct plug to the water.
But you could be right. ther might not be room for a temperature-probe.

well, there's definetely no room for the thermometer u used, since that screw is between boiler and grouphead inside the "chassis".

if that screw has a metric thread, one could even use threaded temperature sensors: Temperaturfühler mit 2m Zuleitung ...105 Grad PT100 Temperatursensor mit M6-Gewinde PT100-400 | Pohltechnik

EDIT: just skipped throug the home-barista thread. according to eric the silvia screw is also M6. the pt100 i linked would proably be too long. eric posted a scheme for the silvia thermosensor:

    @thebat:

before you take the trouble to fit your system for a silvia, you might want to check if there a broader interest in that.

my thoughts were more... lets say hypothetical. with PID i am not quite sure if i need a temperature probe in that position, since it is not reflecting the actual brew temperature and flushing isn't necessary on a silvia (ill probably go for a scace filter instead)

users without a pid might appreciate your less expensive (than a pid) solution (if just to check their temperature surfing routine).

    cheers

    Hi George.
There is some other things with a silvia, that make this a more difficult mod, than on a normal E61.
On a E61 the group is exposed and the thermometer just sits for itself and is easy accessable.
But on a silvia, the group is hidden and even if the meassure-well fits the grouphead, you should find a place to mount the thermometer - maby cut a hole in the front-panel or have the display hanging out from somewhere
It is really not something for everybody, unless they are up for the challenge

And the users should not confuse this with a PID.
This is only a thermometer, that shows the current grouphead and water-temperature. it don't adjust the brewingwater in any way ( i know, that you know this, but others might not know this)

It is just a more elegant way on an exposed E61 group.
