This "M3" has been HEAVILY MODIFIED by “Terranova”, to the point that practically isn't an M3 from VL.

Main benefits from the mod are:

1 - Burrs adjusted for maximum parallelism. Which directly affects grind quality.
2 - High torque power. Affects grind quality too.
3 - Variable RPM "Speed Profiling" feature. 150 - 550 rpm

Some pics of the modifications done:

NEW MOTOR

The new installed motor have 3x more torque power than the VL. This solves the lack of power of the original VL motor, which may cause up to 50% RPM reduction during grinding, thus may vary granulometry during the grinding process.

EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY

The new motor requires more power, so it requires a power supply to feed it.

CIRCUIT BREAKER

Added a circuit breaker at the back to protect the grinder from overloads or shot circuits.

NEW TOOTHED BELT

The transmission now uses a toothed belt to cope with the torque force and to avoid the potential slipping belt problems that the VL has.

CARBON BELT COVER

Slick carbon cover has been added for safety.

RPM KNOB

Located on the lower front, you can control grinder RPM. This allow "speed profiling" affecting particle distribution.

NEW ON/OFF SWITCH

The new motor requires a new placement location of the switch. Now it's at the lower right side. This high quality polished metal switch (used for yachts) replaces the original VL plastic switch.

BEARING EXTENSION

For maximum shaft stabilization a second high quality bearing has been added. Also the upper bearing has been replaced with a bigger (than the original VL) bearing. This required a bigger hole in the upper plate after measure the middle point with a CNC laser machine.

NICKEL UPPER FUNNEL + 24K GOLD THREAD & SCALE

Original VL funnel has been nickel coated. The thread is 24K gold. New scale etched on the middle plate instead of a sticker.

ANTI POPCORN FUNNEL FLANGE + NEW MOVABLE ANTI POPCORN

Flange nickel coated and pressed over the funnel. The flange prevents the beans jump out.

Inner anti popcorn is titanium coated. Vertically movable to accommodate different bean sizes.

EXTENSION HEIGHT

Height added for convenience when removing the portafilter.

NEW MOUNTING PLATE

Nickel coated. It supports the doser mechanism.

NEW GLASS HOPPER

The glass hopper is hand made by a portuguese craftsman. Please be aware that it's a handmade product and the glass have bubbles and "defects" it's not machine perfect. It's a dark colour to minimize light. Nickel coated lid.

The grinder has some minor aesthetic defects: A dent over the upper plate (which is invisible because is hidden by the hopper mounting plate. Some micro scratches & little marks. The grinder was repainted, have some minor paint flaws now. What you see in the pics is what you get. It's the current state.

This allows using EK10 burrs with the grinder.

Please, advise that doing this installation may require calibration, shaft lower screw lock (glued) and run the grinder anti clockwise. Also the grinding is slow. It takes about 45" to grind a double dose.
