Im Januar sollten die ersten ausgeliefert werden, da soll auch meiner dabei sein .

Hi all

Here will come a little review of the Bullet R1, as I have had the pleasure of playing around with it, for a couple of hours, and on two occasions.

1. We had Jonas and Jacob from Aillio visiting and showing off the Bullet R1 in Copenhagen at The Factory. To the event there where about 20 people and around 16 from Denmark had already made a preorder.
2. Second time I had the pleasure to see it, was yesterday together with Jens Muff and Jonas from Aillio, we roasted around 8 batches, from 325gr – 1000gr. We weren’t in any rush, so it took around 3-4 hours for the roast.

First of, I will describe the roaster it self, and what I have learned these days.

Software

The software for the PC, is pretty new, as Jacob has only been working on it for 3-4 weeks, so it’s still an Alpha version. It works pretty well atm, you can control everything from the software, and more then you can on the roaster itself. First of, you have a reading of drum temp, bean temp and more. With that, you can also control the drum temp, fan speed, and heating coil (P0-P9).

The heating coil determines how many watt the output is, we usually started on P4-5 and its around 500watt, so its really effective. There will be a cap on 1500w on P8 or 9. So you have the same spec for 110v/220v, and can compare your roasting profile.

For roasting profile, it will be possible to share your roasting profile within the software to other roasters. In Denmark where 20 people has preordered, we will probably be sharing a lot, as people is buying the same beans as well. You will also be able to use a prior roast as overlay, so you can roast after that one, or just compare them while the roast is on. At the moment, you canøt see what specification and changes that where made to the overlay profile, but it will be included in a later version.

Hardware

Aillio seems like they have pretty high demands for their hardware, and what it can handle. All the electronics is approved for 3000w, so it’s doesn’t have any problem with handling the 1500w the roaster will use. Although they have been using parts with high quality, this still doesn’t make it a commercial roaster, and it’s still designed for home use. The belt and motor on the current roaster, has been running since the first prototype, and has roasted every single roast so far.

Roasting

When we where roasting, it didn’t matter if we where roasting 325 or 1000gr, the roaster had sufficient power to roast it in 10min to a “City” roast. But with a roast on only 325gr, the bean probe had a problem with the temperature, so we had to up the drum speed a bit. So I would recommend no less then 400gr in a batch, if you want to have the best logging and reliable roast from time to time.

So all in all, I’m in no doubt that the roaster can make a even and repeatable roast, time after time. And that it has the sufficient power, to roast to 2c without any concerns.

When roasting, the roaster seems pretty well insulated, and you can actually put your hand on it, without burning it at all. It does get hot, but not that much. The front plate is different, and you will get burned if putting out finger or hand on it.



Cooling

When we where finished with the roast, it was dumped in the cooling tray, when roasting 350-750gr, it was cooled down in approximately 2-3 min, depending on the size of the batch. When we roasted 1kg it had some issues with cooling the beans, and it took a bit longer. This should be solved when we receive our roaster, as the cooling tray has more cooling power. The tray has gotten twice as many holes in it, and it should make it a bit more effective.

Right now, the cooling tray is connected to the roaster, and starts automaticly when you press end roast on the Bullet. We have suggested Aillio that they make a change in the software, so you can cool the beans and start a new roast while cooling (the software can’t handle that atm). Also that they make the cooling tray dismounted from the roaster, so you can use it, as a stand alone item with an adapter in it.



Smoke

As I have always roasted on a Behmor 1600, I am used to a lot of smoke in the kitchen, because I always opened the doors when cooling down the beans. My range hood was good enough and the smoke just when straight out in the kitchen. When roasting this time, the Bullet was straight under the range hood, and with roast up to 750gr it didn’t had any problem with the smoke. You can smell that the roast is going on, but you don’t stand in any fog, and it’s not anything that an open window can’t handle. When roasting 1kg to a “city” roast, there was a bit more smoke, and the range hood couldn’t handle it. That being said, the range hood is from the 90’s and probably isn’t one of the best hoods.

Delivery

The big question as usual “when can we get it”. Jonas was pretty sure that they start shipping in end of January. But as it’s always is, a little delay here and there can change it. So I will be happy if they start delivering there, but I’m also okay, if we hit February. Most of all, I’m just looking forward to receiving it ☺

Eine Frage die die bisherigen Vorbesteller beantworten können - wird der Betrag direkt nach der Bestellung abgebucht oder erst bei Lieferung?

 

Wird direkt bei der Bestellung bezahlt. So war es bei mir per PayPal.

 

Wie gesagt, bestellt, bezahlt, Lieferzeit (und Lieferung ) ungewiss.
Es war wohl auch eine Finanzierungsgeschichte.
Umso mehr werde ich mich freuen, falls ein Bullet an der Türe steht ☺

 

Mal noch eine Frage. So ein Bullet ist ja für 1kg ausgelegt, ist irgendwo angegeben was min und max Röstmengen sind ?
Bei anderen Röstern wird ja z.b. als Kapazität 400g angegeben und letzten Endes sollte man nicht mehr als 250g nehmen.

Ich tendiere aktuell zum Bullet. Habe aber Angst das sich das Teil nicht in der Küche betreiben lässt (obwohl direkt dahinter das Fenster ist).
Wenn ich noch nen Zyklon dazukaufe und hinstellen muß reicht der Platz nicht mehr..

Mmhm, auf der Homepage (link oben im Post von RolfG) steht : Shipping will start at end of july. Entweder hat sich das alles schon wieder verzögert, oder sie haben die Seite nicht aktualisiert.
Spiele auch mit dem Gedanken einer Pre-Order, mit PayPal ist man wenigstens etwas abgesichert, falls es nicht zu einer Lieferung kommen sollte. Noch 5 Tage, eine Entscheidung zu fällen...

Ich weiß ch bin ein Lästermaul, deshalb: End of July ist gar nicht so unwahrscheinlich...
Ich drücke euch die Daumen.

Ansonsten noch eine Anmerkung zu PayPal: Selbst wenn es noch ginge, würde die Absicherung nach meinem Wissenstand über die Zeitschiene ausfallen (30 Tage?).
Da ist es interessant sich das Kleingedruckte mal durchzulesen. Es gibt mehrere Aussteiger.

 

Woher weist du von den Aussteigern ?
Bist du mit Aillio in Kontakt [emoji1]?

Selbst bei ner Kreditkarte kann man das Geld nach 6-8 Wochen zurückholen.

Ich bewundere die Erstbesteller (ich selber war dazu zu feige oder vorsichtig) und ich werde möglicherweise wie die Unkenrufer eines Tages davon profitieren.
Bleibt nur zu wünschen, daß das Teil nun endlich mal irgendwann geliefert wird.
Und ich bin natürlich - wie wohl alle - gespannt darauf, wie die ersten Erfahrungsberichte aussehen!

Good luck für die "Pioniere" und etwas Zurückhaltung bei den "Beobachtern"!

Ich möchte kein Unkenrufer sein! Sondern nur etwas bewußt machen. Ich habe meinem Geld (defekte Handhebel) via PayPal 2 anstrengende Monate stundenlang hinterher telefoniert und geschrieben! Das lag zum großen Teil daran, dass es eben nicht nur 200 - 300 € war.
Meines Wissens (entsprechend den Beiträgen hier im Forum) war ich vor 2 Jahren der erste der in Australien einen Behmor bestellt - und das hat wunderbar geklappt. Kann ich jederzeit weiter empfehlen.

Dass ein Entwicklungsprojekt wie der Bullet länger dauert bis die erste Lieferung raus geht ist ganz normal. Und wenn man sich von Anfang an darauf einstellt schont das die Nerven. Fragt man Gunnar mit seinem 1kg Röster.
Und bis es die erste EspressoForge nach Deutschland zu mir geschafft hat, war auch mehr als doppelt so lange wie ursprünglich gehofft.

Aber jetz mal im Ernst, ich habe auf meine Rosco auch 9 Monate gewartet. Da ich keine Vorzahlung leisten musste, war die Wartezeit auch relativ entspannt. Da hat be.an.animal schon recht: man muss sich halt drauf einstellen.
