    Hello to everyone. I have translated and read the topic and some others regarding grinder alignment and i bought a Mahlkonig guatemala SB (73mm burr).

    Thanks to Jupe alignment method i managed to be ~0.01 for the fix burr, and i managed to meassure the rotating burr and there is no problems there. The fix burr is alignment by sanding without shims, i have changed the measuring tool angle and i have the same results. The burrr carrier has no play.

    The problems is this mill was made in 2005 and used in a dentist cabinet therefore the burrs are like new, they are sharp and you can cut yourself in them. But i cannot grind fine enought for espresso. Machine is self build (slayer style preinfusion type).

    I did try different coffees and i cannot grind fine enought. What can i do? (i suspect the burr carrier cause i didnt sand that).

    I am sorry i do not type in Deutch, i moved 6 months ago in Vienna and I do not want to butcher the language.
    LG Denis

    @Denis you are right.
    You can grind espresso only limited with the Guatemala 73, even if the grinding discs are aligned. It is probably due to the grinding discs themselves.
    Take a 7gr sieve and fill it it with 11 to 12 gr espresso, then it works.

    Thank you for taking the time to answer.

    Is there a solution if i talk with SSP grinding/Hansung to build another geometry burr? i want to pull shots only with this grinder.

    @Denis
    it is the same problem like the EK43 with the old coffee burrs and the new coffee burrs. The cut is decisive.

    Hi Denis, it's ok not to worry about butchering the grinder but the German language. :D

    Having said the above please take into account the fact that tenderly preinfusing the coffee bed requires a much finer grind size than immediate up ramping to 8 bar (or more). The Guatemala may not be the most convenient grinder to serve your approach.

    Thank you. I will talk with Hansung/SSP grinder and if he can make turkish/espresso burrs i will buy them.

    ATM i am only interested in floral/fruity filter coffees pushed to their limits on espresso. For taste comparision i do V60 just to be sure i get all the notes.

    The bimodal, conical grinders doesnt suit me anymore and i cannot afford atm a Ek43 (as its not only the grinder you need, but to get it properly set you pay extra . There is no other option, unfortunately. I can do a bumped shots i can modify the debits in preinfusion (stage 1) and brew (Stage 2). I modified a 400ml saturated group machine with a solenoid valve and a 2 way switch to comute between stage 1/2. On each pipe i have a regulator/needle valve that alows me to manually calibrate between 2 and 10 grams/sec.

    I just finished sanding the burr carrier, finished the burr alingment. Cannot do better than this, only with a 0.001 gauge and with better burrs/espresso oriented. Sorry again for posting in english on a deutch oriented forum. Have a great Friday and thank you again for the informations this forum offers. Sometimes i just translate 50-80 pages and read for hours.

    Without alignment unimodal burrs produce a bimodal particle distribution.
    After alignment the particle distribution is more unimodal. The flow through the puck increase, especially after PI. That is the reason why alignment is not always helpful.

    SSP grinding told me they can make me a new set of burrs capable of finer/espresso grinds. They also told me the high RPM doesnt help so i will buy a frequency variator. I will make this grinder work no matter what.

    The difference in V60 Guatemala SB vs Mazzer kony is just mindblowing. I want that taste in the cup aswell for espresso. I have reneka micro sieve, ims, vst baskets, need one that has low total drilled surface, that will a low me to grind abit more coarse. If not, a spoon of coffee/fines from kony will do it :D

    Eine unserer eingeschliffenen Guatemala 73mm Mühlen. Bei mittleren Röstungen mahlt sie bei Mahlgrad 1,0, also kurz vor klirren, für die Slayer mit langer PI von 17 Sekunden gerade eben nicht fein genug.

    Die Lösung wird sein, neue Grate (Espressogeometrie) zu kaufen. Der Kaffee, den ich benutze, ist auf der hellen Seite, ich benutze hauptsächlich Filterbohnen für Espresso und ich bevorzuge niedrige Dosen für Klarheit in der Tasse.
    Danke für die Fotos.

    Passt auch zum Thema alignment.
    Wenn die Scheiben der EK43 stumpf sind, und damit meine ich die äußersten ein bis zwei Millimeter, dann kann man mit ihr auch bei bestem alignment von unter 5um keinen trinkbaren Espresso mahlen.

    Die Malscheiben wurden von mir durch häufiges “klirren lassen” zerstört!
    Die stumpfen Scheiben machen mehr feines.
    Die Partikel werden größer, die Extraktion schlechter.
    Ich vermute, dass die Standzeit der EK43 für Espressovermahlung unter 600 kg liegt, keinesfalls, wie von MK angegeben, bei 8000 kg.
    Der Stahlguss ist nach meiner Erfahrung auch weicher als Werkzeugstahl, und deshalb für Mahlscheiben nicht geeignet.:D
    Danke an @onluxtex für den sehr interessanten link.

    Gestern habe ich 17.2 Gramm Kaffee in Reneka Microsieve Korb mit unter 8 Sekunden PI versucht. (Gemahlen auf Guatemala SB, minimal möglich, nur ein kleines bisschen zurück, nachdem die Grate klirren. Ich schaffe es, einen 25 Sek. Schuss zu bekommen (Brew Druck bei 9 bar), aber für diesen leichten Filterkaffee brauche ich 12-15 Sek. PI und 40 Sek Extraktion, um keine Subextraktion zu erhalten.
    Dies bedeutet, dass ich mit ein wenig Hilfe von der neuen Gratgeometrie (SSP) in der Lage sein werde, fein genug zu schleifen, damit ich jetzt glücklich bin.

    Der ek43 Taschenhalter mit Tülle ist auf meinem Weg (ein Freund von mir schickt ihn von seinem ek43) und dank Jupe werde ich neue Löcher nach Guatemala bohren, um das zu installieren.
    Weiter morgen bekomme ich ein großes 14 cm oberes Loch, 5,5 cm Boden ganzer Trichter um direkt in den Korb zu mahlen.
    Vielen Dank.
    Denis.
