I dont understand what you are trying to do. Everything is well explained and for people who dont understand it or have no skills to do it with confidence I would suggest to not do it.

There are some people who tried to contact me for guidance, I will refuse to help as I dont want to be responsable if you damage your grinder. I saw people with two left hands who will 100% percent screw something up while doing things, so this is not for everyone.

The procedure to check the dynamic alignment, was described above and it's pretty easy to understand, you check the difference between locked burrs and moving burrs.

Then to align it you add shims you dont align it with loosing or tighten the two lid screws, because there are forces while grinding and the lid can vibrate/move, ok? The system has to be aligned and held in place while grinding hard beans, if you are going to leave one screw loose the carrier will just hit the lid and vibrate while grinding, do you want that? ofc not.

You are almost right with your calculation, but I wonder why you came to 1 macro unit on your skale is 62 microns, and then when divided by 10 you got 6 microns, not 6.2microns.

Look at the dial knob, imagine where is 180 degree on it. If I look at a 1-11 dial I see that from 1 to 6.5 you have a half circle turn (180 degree). This means you have 5.5 macro units for half a turn of the knob.

    so 0.75mm/2 (because half turn) / 55 micro-units (cause you have 5.5 macro unit*10)= 6.36 microns per micro-unit on your ek43 with 1-11 scale.

If on my test you have burrs touching at 1.5 it means you have 5 micro-units difference and you have 31.8 microns difference between static and dinamic.

But, I know Mahlkonig changed stuff over time, and they might have made the screw on 1-22 scale different, so you have to check to be sure if your dial knob screw is M25x0.75mm because if it's not then the calculation is not correct.

Thank you for bringing this up and I want to understand, what's going on.

On my grinder, zero went down on both sides. From 2 to 1.4 loosenig the left screw a bit and from 2 to 1.8 loosening the right screw a bit. The touching point did not go up on either side.
But there is a difference. So I shimmed the left side with one layer of aluminum foil.

(64 layers are 0,8mm so we have 12,5 µm thickness of the aluminum foil. Hole spacing of the screws is 125mm, so we have a triangle with sides of 125mm 12,5µm or 1:10.000.

Now the burrs touch static at 1 (of cause) and running at 1.8. And loosening the screws on both sides of the plate bring the touching point down in the same way.

I realy would like to hear form boardies, that could see the touching point going up.

If you move both screws on the lid of course your touching point will change, because you change how much the spindle/bearing will have to move out to push on the carrier and press into the burrs to make them touch.

I think you didn't understand how this alignment work, you dont have to touch both screws at the lid, but only one to make the burrs parallel while running. If you touch both screws and change their locked position then the method with shimming is null.

Listen, imagine you have to burrs that are not perfect parallel. They touch more at 9 a clock than 3 a clock. Now if you are going to unscrew both screws at 9 a clock and 3 you will juse move the points on the burrs and have zero information on whats going on.

You must unscrew one screw at a time and see if the grinder burr parallelism goes down or up. Because if you leave one screw untouched, and you work only with one, the moment you have better parallelism, means the burrs will be more parallel and your zero will move down, but because you worked only with one screw not with both, you didn't loose your reference point. If you understand in your head, how the grinder works while running, and when you rotate the dial knob whats happening inside the grinder, then it is really easy to understand why you work/unscrew only one side at a time.

If you unscrew both, then whats the point to have a zero reference before unscrews, since the zero reference is not the same anymore, cause you changed it by moving the lid 360 degree on the outside..... meaning you will now need to screw more the dial knob so the burrs touch. lol. Maybe someone can explain it in German.

Da darf auf keinen Fall was taumeln!

Of cause I loosened only one screw after the other. I never had two loose screws at the same time.
But neither left nor right the touching point moved up.
And I wonder, if I am the only one with this finding.

    P.S.

Clearly something is wrong with what you are trying to do.

I already wrote that adjusting the two screws at the lid should be one only in small increments, of max 30 degree. You dont start to unscrew the screw one full turn or half turn. One small adjustment has a huge result in grinder alignment.

At the same time I wrote, that if you are going to unscrew the lid while running you can hear the carrier back augers scratching the front of the lid. A friend of mine did this and had aluminium flour inside the grinder because his TBC touched the back of the lid. with the augers/fins - the back side of them.

Yes, if you unscrew the two screws too much it is normal that you have zero point moving up, it means you miss align the grinder compared to how it was aligned.

If i unscrew the screw a bit (1mm) I can have a better alignment, cause now the burrs are more parallel. But if I unscrew the screws more (let's say 3-5mm) now I made the burr passing the parallel point and they are not parallel anymore, but worst than before. meaning the zero point will be sooner cause they touch faster. This is all logical, once you start to understand (I say this 1 million times) how the grinder mechanism works.

I dont know what to drawn or what video to show you so you understand how it works.

At the same time, there is a small small chance that your grinder is aligned good, and you just align it worst with the screws, but that is a small change only, most of them are not aligned.

Thanks for your fast answer. That is important input.
I turned the screw 1/8 of a full turn, so 45°. That was too much.

Shimming with 12,5µm aluminum foil equals a turn of the screw of 4,5°.
    0,0125 being 1/80 of a millimeter, resulting in a turn of 360°/80 = 4,5°

    P.S.

If I open the screw one to four times the width of the slot (I have slotted screws here) I can not see the touching point going to higher numbers.

Because I can't contribute here, I will watch what other users have to say.

This is an interesting topic and please let us discuss it. no hurt feelings....

Sanding with radial clearance will give a cone shaped burr support. With the burr only sitting on the outer rim, where do you see the problem?

    Really?

And now tell me mister smart pants, how can you sand using the burrs, and sand with the burr perfectly centered to the shaft? You know the static burr and carrier burr need feeling gauges to be centered right? now how can you rotate the carrier with your hand and keep the burrs centered perfectly? so when you install the burrs they dont overlap the edge you just created.

It doesn't help going harsh against each other. Let's concentrate on the insights.

So your key is: The axis of the cone after sanding the burr support sits off center to spindle.
